the experience

The Prep: My whole goal is to set you up for success. My contract helps me to custom tailor your session to your individual needs as a headshot client, business, or family. Once you're on my calendar, you receive my Custom Style Guide for your session. Each Guide is filled with all my tricks and tips - how to prep and style your session and how to get the most out of your experience. From coordinating outfits & colors, picking locations, and prepping your little ones - I want you to feel comfortable and confident when you walk into that session!

The Shoot: This is the fun part! Before I ever pick up the camera I like to get to know you, review outfits and accessories, and discuss any specific requests that you have. If you'd like to emphasize or minimize a body feature - this is the time to speak up! I can do just that simply by posing you a certain way. You won't have to wonder if you are "doing it right," I'll walk you through each pose, tell you when you're doing great, and even fix any crooked ties or flyaway hairs.

The Retouching: Most of my time is spent here! I believe that the truth is in the details, and when it comes to retouching an image I don't cut corners. Each image is individually edited by hand to achieve the best color, sharpness & attention to detail you can find - without the use of filters or presets. Hand retouching a session often takes many hours to complete, but you can guarantee that each image you receive will be of the highest quality.

If you have a unique photoshoot idea - I'd love to chat! Lets plan something awesome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only sell digitals?

I sell both print and digital images.
My digital packages include a set number of images and associated print credit. If you love more than the number of images included in your package you are welcome to upgrade.
Each digital image you purchase comes with a print release. Larger sizes are unique art pieces and should be handled as such - you are welcome to use my professional print laboratory for any prints.
Each image is individually hand retouched to achieve the highest quality of detail and color - too much of that can be lost in a bad print job. The print systems at "turn around print shops" are not intended for custom calibrated photos. The professional print laboratory I work with is calibrated to my computer and edits so that images turn out exactly as I edited them.

If you are looking for a "shoot and burn" photographer I am most likely not a good fit.

Will every photo you take be in my gallery?

No. Following each session I cull through the images and remove duplicate images, all test shots, underexposed, closed eyes or any shot that is not up to my standard. Your gallery includes retouched images that are the best of the best to purchase from!

Can I have the RAW images?

No. RAW actually does not mean unedited (but you can't have those either.) Raw is a specific file format, much like .jpg .png or .mp3. It is a file containing uncompressed, unprocessed, original pixel information. These can only be viewed by the camera or by special software. A jpg or jpeg, on the other hand, is not a raw file. It is a compressed, processed version of the raw file, can be opened on most devices and is a (way) smaller file. As for unedited images - They are but one piece of my art work. Asking for unedited images is like asking da Vinci for the wood Mona Lisa is painted on.. prior to it being painted. I only sell complete artwork. :)

What do you mean by "retouching" the photos??

Each of my images is individually hand edited. This means I take a pen to my editing tablet and quite literally draw over each of the lines and details in an image to enhance light and shadows, colors, remove blemishes and flyaway hairs etc.

I treat each image as if it will be published in a magazine and strive to achieve the best color & attention to detail you can find. In addition to fine details, each image is retouched in my signature color/style technique as shown on my website. This involves exposure, camera raw, distraction removal, color grading, background separation, skin tones, artistic image cropping and composition, color and tonal enhancement, among other digital artistic enhancements. Hand retouching a full session often takes many hours to complete, but you can guarantee that each image you receive will be of the highest quality.

Extensive retouching is available on a per image basis for an additional charge beginning at $25 an image. This includes extensive skin retouching (acne or blemishes), skin smoothing and color evening, hair-root touch ups, logo or stain removal from clothing, contouring and body slimming, among others. All permanent things on your body including freckles, dimples, moles or scars etc will remain on final images unless otherwise instructed by the client.

What kinds of sessions do you shoot?

I primarily shoot creative portraits and business headshots however I'm game to shoot most session types. (Just ask!)
At this time I do not offer boudoir, newborn or event photography.
If you've got a unique idea you want to run by me - feel free to ask!

What do I wear to my session?

Great question! I often recommend bringing a few different outfits to add variety to your images. Once you secure your spot on my calendar I will share my custom Style Guide with you for all of the tips and tricks of getting the most out of your portrait session - including what to wear and how to coordinate outfits! Also included is information regarding picking locations, how to prep kiddos and prep the men in your family. I want your session to be as "stress-free" as possible!

Do you do mini sessions?

Nope! Quality takes time.
If you feel rushed - that will translate into your images. I am dedicated to providing the highest level of shooting, retouching, light painting and attention to detail in your images that you can find - and Rome wasnt built in a day (or a 10 minute mini session.)

Do I get the copyright of my images?

No. Copyright means I am the original creator of the image/art, and as such am the exclusive owner of it.

What I sell are:

-Usage/Print Rights for you to use (for PERSONAL use only - not to be sold/published for profit or entered in competitions.) With Usage rights you are given a print release to print from a lab of your choosing.

-Commercial Use Licenses for my commercial clients that does grant access to use images for profit and/or marketing - at a different price point than Usage/Print rights.

As copyright owner, I retain the right to use all images taken by me for marketing and promotional purposes, competitions, publications etc.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. As a professional business owner I think working without insurance is asking for trouble. I strive to protect both myself and my clients throughout the whole portrait experience. Legal Contracts & paperwork protect our business relationship and Insurance protects us from incident on photo shoot and beyond. We live in an area with rocky terrain and venomous animals. The unexpected can happen. It would be foolish to not be prepared.

What if I need to reschedule?

Things come up! I understand that. They do for me occasionally as well. Weather can change unexpectedly too! If something comes up give me a call, I'm sure we can work something out. I am happy to reschedule each session once. Cancellations however will forfeit the (nonrefundable) retainer fee for your session.

if I pay cash will I be able to avoid paying sales tax or receive a discount?

No. As a legal photography business I am required to pay State Sales Tax on any purchases made through my business (including sessions, digital images and prints.) As such, even cash payments I am required by law to collect tax on.

Say hello!
